Tina Fetner to lead the Canadian Sociological Association

McMaster Sociology associate professor Tina Fetner has been elected president of the Canadian Sociological Association.

Fetner’s research focuses on  social and political change as it relates to sexuality. This includes social movements, policies, changing attitudes and social and institutional supports for LGBTQ people. Her current research is on the sexual behaviours and social attitudes of Canadian adults.

“I am thrilled to be entrusted with such an important role,” Fetner says. “The CSA is vital to sociologists across Canada, giving us a voice and creating opportunities for us to communicate with each other and with wider audiences.

The CSA’s membership comes mainly from sociology departments in Canadian universities, as well as other social science departments, community colleges, and non-academic settings such government, NGOs, and the private sector.

“Being elected president of a national association like the CSA is high honour,” says Dr. Gregory Hooks, Chair of McMaster’s Sociology Department. “It reflects the high level of confidence and respect that colleagues across Canada place in Dr. Fetner.”

It’s also a wonderful opportunity for the Department of Sociology here at McMaster to tap into a deeper understanding of what is happening in sociology across Canada, Hooks says.
