‘Something for everyone’ at McMaster Water Week 2017
The McMaster Water Network is hosting McMaster Water Week from October 30 to November 3, 2017. Faculty, students, community partners and the public are invited to attend this free annual event that connects water science, technology and policy to deliver global and local impacts.
This year’s Water Week highlights include, a keynote address from Henry Pollack, Nobel Peace Prize co-recipient, author of A World Without Ice and professor emeritus of geophysics at the University of Michigan; a talk on the world’s water challenges from TVO’s The Water Brothers; and a career networking event with professionals from industrial, academic and government sectors working in a variety of water-related fields.
“This event is going to be a great opportunity for students, faculty and professionals to connect with like-minded people with an interest in water, whether that’s from a research, sustainability or policy perspective,” says Oliver Wearing, McMaster Water Network Student Chapter Vice Chair and PhD student, Biology. “There’s going to be something for everyone.”
Mohamad Amin Halali, PhD candidate, Chemical Engineering is using membranes to filter contaminants from drinking water. He will be presenting his research at Water Week’s Student Research Showcase.
“This is a great opportunity to expose your research,” explains Amin. “Considering the professors and researchers with different backgrounds in attendance, I think it’s a great chance to realize how a variety of elements come together to solve ongoing water challenges.”
Other disciplines represented at the showcase will be, environmental science, biotechnology, life science, biology and radiation sciences.
