Researchers’ Night Hamilton 2018

On Saturday, October 20, curious minds of all ages are invited to discover the world of science and innovation, and meet the scientists and researchers behind the technologies and knowledge that are shaping our current and future lives, at the 5th annual Researchers’ Night Hamilton.

At this free event, the Hamilton community will have the opportunity to connect with researchers and innovators in Engineering, Astrophysics and Archaeology from McMaster and beyond, while learning more about this year’s theme, “Matter and Antimatter,” which explores the birth, life and re-birth of materials.

Through hands-on workshops, activities, and open discussions, members of the public will discover the world of materials is all its forms from the atomic structure of matter, to the biomaterials in medicine, archaeological materials from the Hamilton area, the use of materials for EcoCars, and the recycling process that brings new materials to life.

The event will kick off with a public lecture featuring world famous Zero Waste advocate, Bea Johnson who will talk about how to reduce the amount the materials we use in everyday life, and will include a talk by Danièle Quantin who leads the R&D department at Arcelor Mittal in France and Spain.

Presented in partnership with the McMaster Innovation Park, the department of Materials and Engineering at McMaster University, the Office of International Affairs at McMaster, Economic Development Hamilton, and the French Embassy in Canada, the evening will also include talks by researchers from McMaster University and community group representatives.

Several workshops are offered in either English and/or French. All ages are welcome to attend.
