New campus events focus of Homecoming ‘16
A series of new on-campus events, concerts and activities are the focus of McMaster’s annual Homecoming celebrations Friday and Saturday.
The Saturday afternoon football game at Ron Joyce Stadium is the centrepiece of the weekend, but the McMaster Students Union and the Alumni Association have added several campus concerts, activities, breakfasts and lunches to the weekend agenda.
“We heard from the community that they wanted more to do on campus during Homecoming,” says Justin Monaco Barnes, the president the McMaster Students Union. “Homecoming is one of the highlights of the year and we wanted to take full advantage of all campus has to offer while encouraging everyone to celebrate responsibly right here at McMaster.”
Friday night and Saturday morning concerts are planned for Faculty Hollow, in the centre of the campus. A pancake breakfast and chilli lunch are also scheduled prior to the football game. In addition, a Homecoming expo will be held during the day Friday with rides, games and food for students.
On Sunday, student volunteers will take part in a community clean up through the neighbourhoods around campus.
The Students Union has also undertaken extensive training of volunteers in preparation for the weekend, including responsible serving and consent.
