Media Production Services recognized with two awards from industry experts
Media Production Services (MPS) was recognized by industry experts at the 50th annual College and University Print Management Association of Canada (CUPMAC) conference, hosted by Carleton University.
CUPMAC is a conference that brings together print managers from post-secondary institutions across Canada to acknowledge and celebrate the craftsmanship, accomplishments and initiatives undertaken by in-plants that are deemed the best of the best.
This year, MPS was awarded under two categories: Impression Awards for Collaborative Service for their new McMaster MacDrive exam copy printing process, and Production Awards for Graphic Design for their 2017 calendar.
“We’re a team of passionate people and these awards are a testimony to our efforts,” said Phil Poelmans, Director at MPS. “We’re proud of the work we do and I’m happy to share this success with the team.”
In collaboration with the Scheduling and Examinations department of the Registrar’s Office, MPS made a change in the process for handling exam productions. A more secure, digital workflow was adopted for exams as opposed to traditional printing from hardcopies. The new method improves image quality, decreases the risk of missing pages, and results in a faster production turnaround.
MPS is responsible for producing over 650 titles, representing more than 1.1 million impressions printed over a three week period during each exam season.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of MPS, the department designed a more elaborate calendar that features different stocks, designs, and printing techniques.
“The calendar was a way to mark the occasion, but also to get people thinking more about printing as a way to create unique visual and engaging pieces.”
Approximately 7,000 personalized calendars were mailed out to all full time staff and faculty members both at McMaster and the Hospital.
MPS are an in-house support system established to assist the McMaster Community with professional premium printing, graphic design, web development, and PrintSmart services.
