McMaster's Media Production Services team was recently recognized by the College and Print Management Association of Canada. The award follows a two-year period of changes at the ancillary service.

Staff at Media Production Services have been recognized by their peers with an award from the College and Print Management Association of Canada.

MPS earned the Distinctive Service Award at the national organization’s annual conference, which brings together print managers and staff from post-secondary institutions across the country.

Director Phil Poelmans says the award recognizes the group’s efforts in refocusing services, adjusting prices and generally transitioning into a modern digital environment.

“It’s been a long two-year process,” he said. “You don’t see immediate results. All the changes we made in the first year didn’t become apparent until the second year.”

Changes implemented by MPS allowed the ancillary service to become more flexible to service demands and reduce operational costs, ultimately allowing them to turn a profit

“This award is a great reflection of all our hard work over the last two years of changes,” said Poelmans. After all the efforts and hard work that everyone had to do, it’s nice to give ourselves a pat on the back for a job well done.”

MPS offers printing and graphic services to students, staff and faculty, manages the fleet of copiers on campus and also managers print operations at Mohawk College.

Awards at the 2014 College and Print Management Association of Canada conference were given out in a variety of categories and recognized exceptional management initiatives and superior craftsmanship.
