McMaster’s 2017 Financial Forum: More than just number crunching

The financial management of the University includes much more than crunching numbers on a spreadsheet. Attendees at the 2017 McMaster Financial Forum had the opportunity to learn more about how the University is funded, upcoming trends and how we’re planning for our financial future.

This year’s theme was Financial Fine Tuning and the agenda included Provost David Farrar’s initial thoughts and plans for McMaster, a historical look and future forecast from Chief Financial Officer Deidre Henne, and a sneak peak of McMaster’s new marketing and branding Brighter World Campaign.

More than 170 financial managers, administrators and leaders heard from the University’s President and Vice-Presidents group, with Patrick Deane leading a panel that included VP Research Rob Baker, VP Advancement Mary Williams and VP Administration Roger Couldrey, who discussed the plan to continue to grow McMaster as one of the world’s top 100 universities. The team answered questions about efforts to differentiate McMaster and plans to build on the momentum of the recent IT, Research Finance and Budget Model reviews.

Breakout sessions included Managing McMaster’s Receivables using PeopleSoft; Business Intelligence; Harmonizing Accounts; and discussions about new and changing Policies.

“We look forward to the Forum every year because it’s a great opportunity to inform the community about what we’re working on and what they can look forward to. Thank you to our panelists and our attendees for their interest, attention and great questions,” Henne said.
