Health Sciences Venture Fair showcases McMaster innovations
To kick off Hamilton Health Innovation Week – a week of activities designed to promote Hamilton’s best innovators and innovations in the life sciences sector – the McMaster Industry Liaison Office (MILO) will host its first Health Sciences Venture Fair.
The Fair, being held on Monday, April 23, at the McMaster Innovation Park, will bring together leading health scientists with venture capital investors. The goal, says Gay Yuyitung, MILO’s Executive Director, is to raise awareness of McMaster innovations with high commercialization potential to the investment and pharmaceutical community.
“Having the opportunity to showcase McMaster’s talent to those who have the means to advance the development of our research is a critically important step in moving our research out of our labs and into the marketplace,” says Yuyitung, who adds the event is expected to draw over a hundred industry and investment professionals from across the country.
Among the Fair’s highlights:
- Keynote address by Brian Lichty, associate professor of pathology andmolecular medicine, and one of three founders of Turnstone Biologics, a clinical-stage, immune-oncology company, transforming cancer patient care. Turnstone has recently entered into a collaboration with a global pharmaceutical company, has raised over $65 million since 2015, and was named a Fierce 15 company – recognizing its accomplishments as a top up-and-coming biotechnology company
- Venture capitalists panel discussion highlighting best practices for success in start-ups, effective pitching, and insights on host investment sectors
- Health sciences researchers from across various disciplines will pitch their novel ideas, innovations, and technologies to venture capitalists
- Networking opportunities with innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers and industry experts
