Hamilton’s first Newcomer Day!

On July 27, Hamilton will host its first ever Newcomer Day to celebrate the coming of people from different walks of life to the city.

The celebration takes place in downtown Hamilton and features family-friendly activities and games, an information fair, free workshops, entertainments and a citizenship ceremony.

There will also be a booth for McMaster services, hosted by staff from McMaster’s Office of International Affairs and the Student Success Centre.

The booth will include a citizenship challenge activity for guests to take while learning about McMaster.

Recently, McMaster held its first ever Citizenship Ceremony in Convocation Hall, welcoming 30 people from seventeen countries around the world.

The event was led by Gary Warner, a retired linguistics and French professor.

“Canadian citizenship is highly valued by people from all around the world.” Warner told ceremony guests.

“They see Canada as a tolerant, welcoming, peaceful, and orderly society. A country that places enormous importance on the values of respect, equality, and freedom.” https://dailynews.mcmaster.ca/article/mac-gives-new-canadians-their-first-eh/
