Business leader and grad Michael Lee-Chin shares wisdom, insights at Mac Bermuda event

Reflecting on a life of business success, philanthropy and community service, entrepreneur Michael Lee-Chin credited McMaster’s “nurturing” that helped lay the foundation for a remarkable career and professional life.

The chairman of Portland Holdings Limited spoke to an audience of alumni, friends and prospective students at an event organized by the McMaster Alumni Association and the DeGroote School of Business  in Hamilton, Bermuda. He told the audience that his time as a Mac engineering student in the early 1970s helped launch his career and life.

“McMaster has been nurturing and has provided me with the economic substance to be here today,” he said.

He encouraged the group to find causes and set goals in life, and to remain steadfast in working to achieve those objectives.

“One will only do well in life if one is passionate, driven by cause and perseveres,” he said.

“When we have an opportunity to spend time with Michael, everyone gains important insights and learns from his remarkable life story and commitment to success,” says Len Waverman, dean of the DeGroote School of Business, which is home to the Michael Lee-Chin & Family Institute.

The event was held at the Bermuda Underwater Exploratory Museum where McMaster alumna Tara Curtis’90 is the CEO. Attendees included prospective high school students from Bermuda who have interest in attending McMaster, along with their teachers as part of the university’s international recruitment activities.
