Athletics and Recreation nominated for Outstanding Business Achievement Awards

McMaster’s Department of Athletics and Recreation was among those honoured by the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce March 20.

The Department was nominated as a finalist for the 2017 Outstanding Business Achievement Awards, presented by Royal Bank of Canada.

“Each year, the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to celebrate the best in business in this community, and these nominees are certainly well-deserving of that distinction,” said Chamber President & CEO, Keanin Loomis. “It’s important to recognize their significant contributions to the vibrancy and prosperity of Hamilton and, in the process, aspire others to excellence.”

McMaster Athletics and Recreation was one of three nominees in the Not-For-Profit category.

The Chamber emphasized the community building that A&R has done throughout the Greater Hamilton Area through its efforts in the areas of sports medicine and rehabilitation, recreation and instructional programming, varsity athletics, athletic facilities and community outreach.

The Director of  Athletics and Recreation Glen Grunwald says this type of recognition is vital in supporting the McMaster mission of building a brighter world through a commitment to the public good.

“We have always embraced our role as one of McMaster’s primary front-line service providers for the Hamilton community at large,” said Grunwald.  “I’m happy to see that the efforts of our dedicated staff and students are making a real difference and that the contributions of McMaster Athletics and Recreation continue to make a positive impact on people in the community.  Given the outstanding quality of the nominees, it’s gratifying to be acknowledged in this manner.”
