Learning Objectives
At the end of this learning activity the learners will be able to:
• Review recent trends in the evolution and burden of the global diabetes epidemic.
• Understand the evidence behind the growing range of therapies proven to reduce
cardiovascular and renal outcomes, and how best to use these therapies.
• Leverage information available from flash or continuous glucose monitors to help patients improve
well-being and glycemic control through dietary and activity changes.
• Appreciate the impact of COVID-19 on diabetes and diabetes care.
• Explore basic approaches to managing type 1 diabetes with closed-loop insulin infusion pumps. (i.e. the “artificial
pancreas”)
• Use evidence-based principles to help choose the first or second glucose-lowering therapy to prescribe
