The winter sport season for McMaster Marauders has been cancelled, after a decision by Ontario University Athletics to cancel all sport programming and championships through March 31, 2021.

That decision, like an earlier one that cancelled the fall sport season, was made to ensure the safety and well-being of participants.

“While this announcement was not entirely unexpected, it is incredibly disappointing news for our students, staff and community of supporters,” said Shawn Burt, director of Athletics & Recreation.

“I fully appreciate this news is difficult for everyone in our Marauder family, but we will continue to do everything possible to support our people through this time. I am thinking of everyone impacted by this news and we continue to press forward in the best interests of all concerned.”

McMaster University and the Department of Athletics & Recreation will continue to support student-athletes in virtual environments through sport-specific training programs, online personal development and engagement sessions, mental health and wellness initiatives, and, where allowable under public health guidelines, limited in-person training opportunities.
