The Student Wellness Centre has a new location as of Oct. 28

As of October 28, the Student Wellness Centre (SWC) will be located in the new Peter George Centre for Living and Learning (PGCLL) room 210.

Their services including medical, naturopathic, counselling and education programming, and the SWC lounge space will all be relocated.

Current services will continue as usual at the MUSC B101 location until October 28th, with the exception of fewer appointments being scheduled between October 25 at 12:30 p.m. until October 28 at 1:30 p.m.

There will not be any evening appointments from October 24 to October 28. Reception will still be available to schedule appointments and counselling will be available for urgent appointments.

The SWC’s lounge has been a space for students to grab a tea, study, or take part in programming. It has also been home to the Wellness Education team, including wellness educators and volunteer wellness outreach teams. The space has long been affectionately known as the SWELL, which stands for Student Wellness Education Lower Lounge. The SWELL has always been a part of the SWC, though the use of a separate acronym has caused some to believe that it is a separate department, or that the entire SWC is called the SWELL.

To avoid confusion, the lounge will no longer be referred to as ‘the SWELL.’ The Wellness Education team will be in a lounge space that will be directly adjacent to the reception area for the entire SWC.

The move to PGCLL will allow for an increase in medical staff from seven doctors and four nurses each day, to nine doctors and five nurses each day, as well as increased availability of evening appointments.

In addition, counselling staff has increased from eight to 17 within the last four years. The new space will allow for the team to all have offices in the same area.
