McMaster conference puts focus on cannabis science

McMaster University is hosting a conference this month focused on medicinal cannabis research.

Innovations in the Science of Cannabis will be held on Feb. 9 and 10 at the West 5th Campus of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton at 100 West 5th St. in Hamilton.

The conference is hosted by the new Michael G. DeGroote Centre for Medicinal Cannabis Research. The Centre focuses on curating evidence-based content, conducting cutting-edge research, and creating a network of medicinal cannabis professionals.

The event will create a forum to share results from ongoing research efforts of the Centre’s associated faculty members and bring together world-class experts in the fields of addictions, mental health and pain research to discuss work in the area of medicinal cannabis.

Conference speakers hail from a wide range of institutions, such as Columbia University, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, McGill University and the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction. The conference’s cannabis-focused topics range from therapeutic uses to policy issues.

Trainees will have opportunities to share research projects through poster presentations.

The conference is supported by St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, the Michael G. DeGroote Initiative for Innovation in Healthcare and the Boris family of Hamilton.
