Meet McMaster’s 2017/18 Writer-in-Residence
The Department of English and Cultural Studies at McMaster University and the Hamilton Public Library are pleased to welcome Gary Barwin, the 2017 Mabel Pugh Taylor Writer-in-Residence.

Gary Barwin is a writer, composer, publisher, editor, multidisciplinary artist and the author of twenty-one books of poetry, fiction and books for children. His recent best-selling novel, Yiddish for Pirates (Random House Canada, 2016), was a finalist for both the Governor General’s award for fiction and the Scotiabank Giller Prize, and is the winner of the Stephen Leacock Award for Humour (2017). His latest book is the poetry collection No TV for Woodpeckers (Wolsak & Wynn, 2017) A PhD in music composition, Barwin has been Writer-in-Residence at Western University and Young Voices E-Writer-in-Residence at the Toronto Public Library. His writing has been published in hundreds of and journals and his writing, music, media works and visuals have been presented an d broadcast internationally.
As Writer-in-Residence, Barwin works one-on-one with aspiring writers in the McMaster and Hamilton Communities to provide mentorship, feedback, or talk about any aspect of the writing process.
