posted on Sept 21: Marauder athletes gear up for Homecoming Weekend 2000

The Department of Athletics & Recreation kick off it's 2000 Homecoming festivities tomorrow (Sept. 22) with the 17th annual Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner.


Eight new members will be formally inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame: Bernie Custis (builder), Kairy Hennessy-Loucks '89 (track & field), John MacLennan '64 (football & basketball), Patricia (Koudys) Pangos '83 (basketball), Paul Pottier '79 (water polo/swimming), Lydia Vamos '90 (soccer), Gerald Wagar '46 (football, ice hockey, tennis), Jane (Kirby) Wilson '71 (field hockey/ice hockey). For further information on the dinner, or to order tickets, ext. 23400. The dinner is at the Hamilton Convention Centre.

In addition to the annual Hall of Fame Dinner, there is a full slate of varsity events throughout the weekend.

The highlight of this year's Homecoming festivities will undoubtedly be the battle of the country's third- and fifth-ranked football teams. The fifth-ranked Marauders will take on the third-ranked Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, with first place in the OUA at stake.

Sunday, Sept. 23

Men's tennis vs. Toronto and McGill, 9 a.m.


Men's baseball vs. Western, 1 and 3 p.m.

Men's soccer vs. Ryerson, 1 pm.. Ten-Acre Soccer Field


Women's soccer vs. Ryerson, 3 p.m, Ten-Acre Soccer Field

In addition to the on-field action, the Marauder football team will honour its 1990's Team of the Decade in a half-time ceremony. On offense, current Marauders Ben Chapdelaine (QB), Mike Linton (IR), Ryan Janzen (WR) and Drew Pullen (OG) headline the team. The rest of the offensive unit consists of Rob Ferry (RB), Chris Dorrington (RB), Mike Morreale (WR), Mike Kuntz (TE), Matt Cressman (OT), Lino Battilana (OT), Mat Kalinowski (OG), and Mike Sikic ( C ). The defensive team consists of Jack Dugas (NT), Darren Maludzinski (DE), Jim Bordignon (DE), Chris Mason (LB), Steve Viveiros (LB), Jon Dawson (LB), Selwyn Jordan (LB), Mike Boafo (CB), Jerome Jordan (CB), Kevin Leuschner (HB), Tim Clarke (HB), and Gord Chiarot (S). Two-time All-Canadian Punter/Kicker Derek Livingstone rounds out the 1990's Team of the Decade.
