Swift response to offensive booking
The University took immediate action Thursday when a study room was booked using an inappropriate and offensive name. The booking was cancelled, the party connected to the booking ID was notified and an investigation under the student code of conduct was launched.
The booking was made late Wednesday evening using the self-populating study room calendar system. A few hours later, library staff saw the offensive name used to book the room and cancelled the reservation.
An investigation continues to determine who is responsible for the offensive post. The booking has been removed from the system. Everyone at McMaster is expected to help foster the University’s commitment to being a welcoming and inclusive community. It is the responsibility of all students, faculty, staff and visitors to uphold McMaster’s principles of inclusivity, respect and civility.
