Leadership in Community Engagement Certificate: Registration now open

The McMaster Centre for Continuing Education, working with Hamilton Community Foundation, Neighbourhood Leadership Institute, and McMaster Faculty of Social Sciences, has developed a five course certificate program called Leadership in Community Engagement.

The Leadership in Community Engagement certificate is an excellent opportunity for faculty, staff, and community partners interested in developing a broader community engagement skill set while strengthening their professional networks.

Three courses are being offered this winter:

  • Foundational Principles and Practices in Community Engagement

This course provides co-learners with a broad overview of community engagement philosophies, practices, and skills.

  • Communication & Conflict in Communities: Ethical Approaches in Supporting Successful Group Process and Decision Making

This course prepares co-learners to take roles as facilitators and mediators within their work engaging diverse urban communities.

  • Facilitating Collaborative Leadership and Grassroots Governance in Communities

This course prepares learners to support communities in developing their own leadership skills, setting their own priorities, and driving local change.

The impetus for the development of the program was a research-identified need for an educational program for professionals who work with community in urban settings. At every stage, there has been deliberate consultation and collaboration among the stakeholders.
