The saying ‘All good things come in threes’ has never been more true for three students in the Department of Health, Aging and Society.
Audrey Tan and Lauren Karrys, recent graduates of the Honours Health Studies and Gerontology program, and Peter DeMaio, also a graduate of the Honours program and a current MA candidate in Health and Aging will be setting off to the University of Oxford in the UK in September.
The oldest university in the English-speaking world, Oxford has been shaping the minds of some of the world’s greatest intellectuals and scholars for more than 900 years.
All three students will be pursuing a Master’s of Science in Evidence-Based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation (EBSIPE) in the Department of Social Policy and Intervention.
The one-year program aims to help students develop critical analysis, problem solving, and research skills in the field of evidence-based interventions and policies for social problems. Not only does the program teach students how to research and evaluate social issues but it also provides the tools to see a solution through from start to finish.
Tan, Karry, and Demaio’s accomplishment are made all the more impressive by the fact that they are three of only 22 students accepted into the program this year, proudly representing McMaster.
While many alumni from the Department of Health, Aging and Society use the academic foundation they developed at McMaster to pursue Graduate studies and careers in the field, 2016 marks the first year that not only one, but three students from the Department have been admitted into Oxford.
