Smoking on campus

Please be aware of our recently updated Risk Management Manual Program RMM 402 Smoking in the Workplace/Public Areas Program with the following highlights:

• Smoking is prohibited within 9 meters of any main floor entrance or exit of any University building.

• Smoking is prohibited within 9 meters of any fresh air intake duct or opening window into a University building.

• Smoking is prohibited in all McMaster University vehicles.

• Smoking is prohibited in all University buildings including all student residences, outdoor restaurants, patios and sports fields.

The definition of smoking includes the carrying of a burning cigarette, electronic cigarette, pipe or cigar in any enclosed space.

This update takes into consideration the new “Making Healthier Choices Act 2015” Bill 45, which bans the use of electronic cigarettes (also known as e-cigarettes) in places where smoking tobacco is prohibited.
