Fall Career Fair brings some of Canada’s top employers to McMaster
'Over the years, ArcelorMittal Dofasco has hired hundreds of graduates from Engineering, Commerce and other McMaster programs,' says Victoria Smith, the company's talent management coordinator. 'They are an integral part of operating our business. Currently, seven out of our nine-person executive team are McMaster graduates.' ArcelorMittal Dofasco is one of 108 employers at this year's Fall Career Fair.
The Fall Career Fair, McMaster’s largest event of its kind, takes place Thursday, Sept. 24 in the David Braley Athletic Centre from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event has reached maximum capacity this year with 108 employers scheduled to attend — all looking to fill full-time, part-time, co-op or internship positions.
Attendees should dress for success and with a resume in-hand to meet campus recruiters. The event also offers on-site resume critiques and an “Ask an Advisor” booth.
One of the businesses that will be present is ArcelorMittal Dofasco.
Founded in 1912 as Dominion Foundries and Steel, the plant is Hamilton’s largest private sector employer, home to some 5,000 employees. It ships 4.5 million net tons of high quality steel annually.
ArcelorMittal Dofasco partners with the top auto, energy, packaging and construction companies to create lighter, stronger and more sustainable everyday products. Hamilton’s flagship location works to develop new technology and products that fundamentally change the global steel business.
Here’s an informative Q&A with Victoria Smith, talent management coordinator, ArcelorMittal Dofasco:
How many years has ArcelorMittal Dofasco been attending the Fall Career Fair?
ArcelorMittal Dofasco has a long history of recruiting from McMaster University, and it has been a mainstay since the Career Fair’s inception.
Why do you choose to recruit from McMaster?
We are lucky to have a top-ranked university located in Hamilton, the community Dofasco has called home for the past century. We benefit from hiring qualified graduates who have chosen Hamilton as their place of study, and want to build their career in our great city. Additionally, McMaster is one of our key longstanding partners, and our ties to the University are extensive. We are certainly proud of our four research chairs — in Engineering, Health Sciences and Social Sciences — as well as the Centre for Engineering and Public Policy that we have funded. Our work together is diverse and certainly important to our continued success.
How many McMaster graduates have you hired?

What is it about McMaster’s talent pool that keeps you coming back?
McMaster University often pairs quality classroom learning with hands-on co-op or internship experience, which prepares grads to hit the ground running and start contributing in their new roles very quickly. We look to McMaster to recruit the top talent today, who will become the leaders of our organization in the future.
