McMaster begins decommissioning mainframe, other legacy systems

Over the past two years, Mosaic has replaced a number of systems at McMaster. As the project proceeds towards its conclusion, it is time to begin formally decommissioning those previous systems. Notably, the University’s mainframe computer applications will be shut down so that the mainframe computer can be retired.

Decommissioning will include archiving of all legacy systems data and, in some cases, providing access to the data if necessary. The process has begun and is scheduled to be completed by April 2016. Tentative dates for retirement of key systems are:

TFAIS – June 30, 2015

SAS System – June 30 2015

Mainframe FAS and associated financial systems – Dec 30, 2015

Mainframe PPS – Oct 30, 2015

MURFI System Jan 30, 2016

MacVIP – TBD

Mainframe Student Records and associated student systems – April 30, 2016

Questions about the decommissioning of these systems should be directed to Brian McEntegart Associate Director, University Technology Services (UTS), Ext. 23730, mcenteg@mcmaster.ca
