Open house will celebrate 46-year career of David Hitchcock
The year 1968 saw many notable moments – the Civil Rights Act was signed, rock band Led Zeppelin performed their first live concert, Pierre Elliott Trudeau became Prime Minister of Canada, and Apollo 8 launched into history as the first manned spacecraft to leave Earth orbit and circle the moon.
It was also a year that saw professor David Hitchcock appointed in his first lecturer position at McMaster in the Department of Philosophy.
Hitchcock would go on to serve the McMaster community for another 46 years as a professor, chair of the Department of Philosophy (1989-1992) and as acting dean of the Faculty of Humanities (1977-78). He was also an active member of the McMaster University Faculty Association, and served on dozens of University committees. He published three books on critical thinking and logic and received numerous awards and honours including honorary president from the International Association of Greek Philosophy and a Dedicated Service Award from the Canadian Association of University Teachers.
An open house reception in honour of Hitchcock’s years of service will be held in Convocation Hall, University Hall on Friday, June 13 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
