W Booth School offering lecture series on mobile start-ups

McMaster’s W Booth School of Engineering Practice, in partnership with Innovation Factory, is launching a series of events to support start-ups in the mobile application sector.

Organizers will be bringing the best-of-the-best to Hamilton to share with the community their experiences developing apps, validating their ideas, marketing and raising funds. There will be ample opportunity for those attending these events to chat with the experts and ask them questions about their ideas.

There will also be a lot of networking opportunities for new start-ups to develop a contact list and potentially create a development team.

Each lecture will be 1.5 to 2 hours in length, covering three main topics:

  • Market Validation | May 7, 2014 | ETB 535 | 6-8 PM
  • Technology Development | May 21, 2014 | ETB 535 | 6-8 PM
  • Business Model and Market Entry | June 4, 2014 | ETB 535 | 6-8 PM

We will also be featuring an event to showcase all the community resources Hamilton has to offer mobile app start-ups, from mentors to incubation space. The target audience includes students, app developers, business developers, entrepreneurs and investors.

Video pitch competition:

In conjunction with this series, we will be holding an online video pitch competition where students from McMaster University and Mohawk College with an app idea can post a 2 minute video on YouTube which we will then upload to our website for voting. The winner will receive representation on our website, as well as a cash prize to help push their idea forward. Click here for more info and to register.

Registration for the video pitch competition will open May 8.
