Applications now open for Student Success Leaders
Applications are now open for 170 Student Success Leaders (SSLs) for the 2014/15 academic year. Interested students should not delay, as the program received more than 300 applications for 150 positions last year.
The Student Success Leader program is a Student Success Centre development initiative designed to help students fine-tune their leadership skills while they enhance their ability to work with and lead others.
SSLs volunteer with various Student Affairs departments, and are supervised by campus professionals who are interested in student development and willing to provide them with guidance, support and unit-specific training throughout the year. Supervisors and SSLs then work together to identify and reflect on the leadership skills being developed as they provide services and programs to McMaster students.
This year, the Student Success Centre is recruiting 170 SSLs for 18 different units across campus, including: academic skills, career assistance, civic engagement, community policing, first-generation peer mentor, LinkedIn assistant, Peer Conduct Board, Student Accessibility Services’ Student Ally Program, Speakeasy/Conversation Circle and more.
A complete list of opportunities is available here.
New SSL units this year include Learning Portfolio promotion and training, orientation and transition programming for Welcome Day and Welcome Week, and promotion of the McMaster Teaching and Community Garden.
Students interested in an SSL opportunity are encouraged to apply on OSCARplus as soon as possible. The deadline to apply is Jan. 20, 2014.
