Calling all creative writers!

Join Anne Simpson, McMaster’s Mabel Pugh Taylor Writer-in-Residence for 2013-14 for Write Bites, a writing circle & brown bag lunch to be held Tuesdays from 12:30 -1:30 p.m. on Jan. 7, 14, 21 and 28 in Mills Library Community Room (L304).

Participants are asked to bring a short piece of writing (1-2 pages) and lunch.

“I believe that a Writer-in-Residence can bring people together in a communal discussion about writing,” says Simpson, “We can’t cover much ground, of course, if each participant brings one or two pages of poetry or a section of a short story. But a group like Write Bites can offer the kind of support and constructive criticism that helps a writer to continue.”

Anne Simpson is a writer of fiction, poetry and non-fiction. She is the winner of the Pat Lowther Memorial Award for Quick (2007), the Griffin Poetry Prize for Loop (2003) and the Gerald Lampert Memorial Prize and the Atlantic Poetry Prize for Light Falls Through You (2000). She has also written two novels, Falling (2008), long listed for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award and winner of the Dartmouth Award for Fiction, and Canterbury Beach (2001). Her book of essays, The Marram Grass: Poetry and Otherness (2009), delves into issues of poetry, art, and empathy.

Anne has been a writer-in-residence at libraries and universities across Canada. Recently, she was invited to do a short residency with the OSU Children’s Libraries in Ghana, West Africa.

As Writer-in-Residence, Anne Simpson will be holding office hours until January 31, 2014. Since her residency is jointly held between McMaster University and the Hamilton Public Library, she divides her time between the Department of English and Cultural Studies at McMaster (Chester New Hall 212) and the Hamilton Public Library (Third Floor, Central).
