Three Minute Thesis competition

Could you explain years of research in just three minutes?

Forty graduate students from across the University will be presenting their research and its wider impact in 3 minutes or less to a panel of non-specialist judges from the campus and broader Hamilton communities. The challenge is to present complex research in an engaging, accessible, and compelling way, using only one static presentation slide.

The 3MT is an opportunity for students to showcase McMaster research to other Faculties and disciplines, as well as to the broader public. It’s also a chance for students to enhance their communication skills, which are key for the variety of careers they will pursue after graduation.

The winning 3MT will receive a prize of $1,000; 2nd place, $500; 3rd and People’s Choice are each $250. Confirmed judges for the Final include Mayor Bob Bratina, Ron Ulrich (Artistic Director, Theatre Aquarius), Miranda Hill (award-winning author), and Rebecca Bourque (Mitacs).

The top two eligible presenters at McMaster will attend the inaugural Ontario 3MT competition hosted by Queen’s University on April 18, 2013, where 17 Ontario universities are expected to participate. McMaster will host next year’s provincial competition.
