Welcome to the neighbourhood

With the 2025-26 school year about to begin and a new cohort of students arriving at McMaster and our surrounding communities, the university is launching its annual Good Neighbour campaign.

Good Neighbour reminds students that Hamilton is their home now and they’re part of the community, and encourages them to get to know the people who live and work around them.

The start of the school year is a great time for students to introduce themselves to their new neighbours, says Sean Van Koughnett, associate vice-president (Students).

“McMaster students have been part of Hamilton neighbourhoods for decades and are part of the reason this is such a great place to live,” Van Koughnett says.

“I hope our students will take the time to say hello to their neighbours and will continue to be considerate and thoughtful when it comes to noise levels, respecting their property, and putting out and taking in the garbage and recycling bins.”

McMaster is also sharing messages from the Good Neighbour campaign directly with students and through a number of digital channels.
