Art of Research 2025 contest: Submit a creative image of your research for a chance to win prizes

Share your eye-catching research images between now and April 6 and you could take home $500.

Hosted by the Office of the Vice-President, Research, the Art of Research competition asks members of McMaster’s research community to showcase the impact of their work through creative images.

Images must align with McMaster’s Strategic Research Plan – Transforming Our Region, Impacting Our World – and capture the essence of one of these five priority areas:

Planetary health and sustainability

Promoting a healthy society

Building an equitable world

Connecting communities

Advanced technology

Whether taken in the field – at home or around the world; in the lab – revealing more than meets the human eye; in the studio – highlighting music, art, or drama; or within the community – showcasing the benefits of partnerships, we seek images that vividly illustrate the transformative impact of our research.

One winner and one runner-up will be chosen from each of the five submission categories and awarded $500 and $250, respectively. An additional $300 prize will be awarded for Best Description: the clearest, most vibrant image description and title.

Andy Knights, Vice-President, Research (Acting), says the competition provides a creative and accessible method of sharing and celebrating cutting-edge research taking place at McMaster.

“We’re excited to showcase images that spark curiosity, inspire change and capture the many ways our research community is making an impact across disciplines and around the world,” he says.

The competition is open to McMaster University students, staff, faculty, alumni and retirees and will be judged by a multidisciplinary selection panel.

All submissions will be showcased and winners will be announced at the 2025 Art of Research reception this spring.
