McMaster’s Black Students’ Association, the Black Student Success Centre, and the Office of Alumni Engagement cordially invite Black students and staff to the second annual Elevate & Empower Black Alumni Networking Event.

This event is designed to provide a safe and welcoming space where current Black students can develop professional skills, network, and gain valuable career insights from Black McMaster alumni. Students from all faculties and programs are encouraged to attend and benefit from the diverse perspectives of Black alumni across various industries and career stages.

This year’s event will begin with a moderated panel followed by light refreshments and an opportunity to network.  This year, McMaster welcomes the following professionals to be part of the moderated panel:

Anu Popoola ’23, is a distinguished Wilson Leadership Award Scholar, McMaster University Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences alumna, and current medical student at the University of Toronto,

Dr. Pia Lauren Reece ’07, ’13, is a Patent Agent and Associate at Aird & McBurney LP, an intellectual property law firm in Toronto. Dr. Reece earned her B.Sc. in Biochemistry and her Ph.D. in Medical Sciences and combines her scientific research background with patent law expertise to help protect innovations.

Keenan Jeppesen ’12  is an award-winning former student-athlete who competed both in the USA and in Canada.  He is the Director of Athletics and Recreation at McMaster and previously held other management roles at McMaster, including Associate Director, High Performance and Director of Basketball Operations.

Doors open at 5:45 pm, and welcoming remarks occur at 6 pm.

The Alumni Panel Discussion will run to 8:15 pm, and the event will end with networking, followed by closing remarks and door prize giveaways.
