Ongoing support for sexual and gender-based violence prevention and response at McMaster
In order to better serve the McMaster community, the university is currently implementing some changes within the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office (SVPRO). Recent staffing changes are part of advancing the way that sexual and gender-based violence supports, advice and education are provided across the university.
Sexual and gender-based violence, response and prevention programs are a priority across the Equity and Inclusion Office (EIO) and will continue to draw on, and enhance, the expertise available to the McMaster community.
Additional staffing is being planned to support the work of SVPRO, and revised positions will be posted shortly. The university remains committed to financially supporting sexual and gender-based violence prevention and response for all members of the McMaster community.
The goal of the EIO is to continue to provide students, faculty and staff with these critical supports through a robust set of services and programs, including reporting and education. The university’s commitment to this work is unwavering.
“The EIO remains ready to support any member of the McMaster community who reports or raises any concerns around sexual or gender-based violence,” says Barrington Walker, vice-provost, Equity and Inclusion.
“In addition, SVPRO is continuing to offer consent training and education, by-stander training and many other supports through a combination of internal experts and external partnerships.”
This includes working with our key community partner, the Sexual Assault Centre of Hamilton.
Anyone who needs support from the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office can access their services in the usual ways: Through the website, the Sexual Violence Response Case Manager, or the office in University Hall.
