Introducing the President’s Award for Societal Impact

McMaster is introducing a new President’s Award to recognize and celebrate exceptional research teams whose research has generated significant societal impact through knowledge mobilization, translation and/or exchange activities.

This includes having had a positive effect on, or promoting positive change or benefit to the economy, society, culture, public policy or services, health, the environment or quality of life beyond academia.

“The Office of the Vice-President, Research is thrilled to introduce the President’s Award for Societal Impact,” says Sukhvinder Obhi, Associate Vice-President, Research (Society & Impact).

“We’re so proud of the work McMaster faculty do across the disciplines to turn their research into meaningful benefits for societies in Canada and globally. This award recognizes their dedication to research excellence, knowledge mobilization and exchange, and celebrates the real-world impact of their work.”

In its inaugural year, one award will be presented. Thereafter, the Selection Committee will determine the number of awards to be presented each year based on the strength of the applications.

The successful team(s) will receive a President’s Medal for Societal Impact and a sum of $10,000 to support their ongoing research.

The award is open to research teams from all disciplines. The Selection Committee is currently soliciting nominations. Applications are due on March 25, 2025.
