Updated Key Control Policy takes effect


If you use one of the 10,000 locks on campus, the updated Key Control Policy, which takes effect Aug. 1, 2024, may be of interest to you.

Departmental Key Clerks are highly encouraged to review their responsibilities as outlined in the policy.

  • Individuals are responsible for their keys, and all keys remain the property of the University.

Can I duplicate/use/borrow a colleague’s key?

  • Keys cannot be loaned, duplicated or used in an unauthorized manner.
  • Only locksmiths employed by Facility Services shall repair a university lock or cut a university key. New or replacement keys now cost $25 each.
  • An identifying serial number is stamped on each key for record purposes.
