Meghann Robinson, a McMaster kinesiology student, has been awarded the Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD) Student Award in recognition of her exemplary leadership in this field.

“Meghann's nomination came from her peers which is a wonderful acknowledgement of how her leadership within the Kinesiology Society and on campus committees such as the Experiential Education Job Shadow positively affects her peers,” says Sue Inglis, associate kinesiology professor at McMaster and the faculty liaison between CAPHERD and McMaster's kinesiology program. “Meghann is a tremendous asset to any committee she sits on and will continue to offer her leadership skills as President of the '750 undergraduate strong' Kinesiology Society.”

Robinson is the vice-president of the Kinesiology Council, and the Kinesiology and Off-Campus Welcome Week representative. She also participates on the Undergraduate Curriculum and Policy Council, the Department Council and on the Experiential Education Job Shadow Committee.

The CAHPERD Student Award recognizes outstanding undergraduate student leadership in the field of physical education. Each Canadian university offering a degree in physical education or a related discipline can present the award.

As the Student Award recipient for McMaster, Robinson has received a CAHPERD Student Award certificate, a one-year CAHPERD membership, and free registration to the CAHPERD National Conference, should she choose to attend. She has also been invited to attend the Intersections 2005 – CAHPERD Student Leadership Camp that is taking place near Brantford, Ontario from Sept. 28 to Oct. 2.

The Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD) is a national, charitable, voluntary-sector organization whose primary concern is to influence the healthy development of children and youth by advocating for quality, school-based physical and health education.
