Work to repair a broken water valve will begin on Friday, May 3, 2024 with excavation on the roadway between the Life Sciences Building (LSB) and Michael DeGroote Centre for Learning and Discovery (MDCL). This is expected to cause minimal disruption to pedestrian and vehicular traffic and traffic control personnel will be on-site. To access MDCL or LSB loading docks during this time, please use University Avenue. 

To complete the repair, domestic water will be shut off for LSB, Divinity College and building T34 on Sunday, May 5, 2024, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fixtures such as toilets, sinks, showers and eyewash stations will be unavailable. 

This water shutdown will also impact the fire safety systems of LSB, Divinity College, T34 and MDCL. A fire watch will be in place during this time.  

The chilled water system, which is used to used to cool a building’s air and equipment, will remain operational across all buildings. 

Power Shutdown: Ivor Wynne Centre, DeGroote School of Business, David Braley Athletic Centre and Ron Joyce Stadium 

Also on Sunday, May 5, 2024, the new McLean Centre for Collaborative Discovery building will be connected the McMaster power grid. To complete this work, electricity will be turned off at the Ivor Wynne Centre (IWC), DeGroote School of Business (DSB), David Braley Athletic Centre (DBAC) and the Ron Joyce Stadium from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Emergency power for these buildings will not be affected. 

Building managers have been notified, but as a reminder it is recommended that all equipment, computers, etc., be turned off before this time.
