University flag lowered in recognition of International Trans Day of Remembrance
November 20 is International Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR), a time to honour and remember transgender, nonbinary, Two-Spirit and gender-diverse people who lost their lives because of anti-trans violence, discrimination and hatred.
The flag on University Hall has been lowered today in recognition of the need to remember and work to prevent anti-trans exclusion and violence.
“It is vital that we continue to raise awareness about the historic roots and enduring nature of anti-trans exclusions and violence through an intersectional lens,” says Barrington Walker, Vice-Provost of Equity and Inclusion.
“We must take action, and work to a create safe, affirming, and welcoming space for all trans, non-binary, Two-Spirit and gender diverse community members at McMaster and beyond.”
