Students, faculty and staff are asked to download the McMaster SafetyApp for safety alerts, such as campus closures and emergency instructions. The app is available for free download on the Apple and Android app store.
“The McMaster SafetyApp offers a quick way to connect with safety resources on campus, such as Security Services,” says Ivan L’Ortye, director of Security and Parking Services.
“If there was ever an emergency situation on campus, the app could provide critical information faster than other communication channels, which is why it is so important to download it on your phone.”
Other features of the McMaster SafetyApp include sharing your location with a friend while walking and quick access to contact emergency services off campus.
The McMaster SafetyApp is just one of the systems on campus that the Security Services team uses to keep the campus community safe.
Other tools include the campus sirens, which are tested regularly, and Alertus, a desktop safety alert system available for download on Security Services’ website.
No private or personal information is tracked on the app.
