Traffic disrupted at campus entrance by CUPE protest

For several weeks, McMaster has been bargaining with CUPE 3906, which represents those employed by the university as teaching assistants and post-doctoral fellows. This morning, protesters organized by CUPE 3906 were blocking traffic at the Sterling Street entrance and causing traffic delays in the community for a few hours.

It is surprising and disappointing to see a protest at the entrance to campus when we continue to be at the table and have been making progress.

Negotiations belong at the bargaining table.

CUPE 3906 is not in a legal strike position. The university hopes to continue negotiations in a more peaceful and productive manner in future. A provincial conciliator was appointed on Sept 12 to assist with contract negotiations.
