The campus flags are at half-mast in memory of Miao Yu.

Miao was an Engineering Physics graduate student who passed away last week.

She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her many friends, advisors and staff at McMaster Engineering.

Miao joined the Department of Engineering Physics as a Master’s student in 2019, coming from Lanzhou University in China.

She was a valued member of her research group that analyzed and designed the core of a Small Modular Reactor for electricity generation in Arctic Canada. She successfully defended her thesis in April.

Miao was proud to live in Hamilton and had a special appreciation for the beautiful nature that surrounds the city.

Support services are available for the community, including the Student Wellness Centre (SWC) and Homewood Health.
