Important IT information for Winter 2022 from University Technology Services (UTS)

With the start of a new semester, here are the key items to note about University Technology Services (UTS) for an enhanced IT experience:

Accessing IT help and support:

Remote support through LiveChat, ticket/self-service and phone are the current options available for accessing support. UTS LiveChat is the quickest and easiest way to get IT help. Click here for hours and more info. In some circumstances, in-person assistance may be arranged by appointment only by UTS staff. Please note: faculty/departmental IT units may operate differently.

In-person UTS Client Services support is scheduled to resume on Monday February 7 for Winter 2022. From February 7, you can access in-person support by getting in line with our NEW virtual line management service. Learn more about this new tool here.

Not sure where to start? Tech-readiness checklists have been developed for students, staff and faculty. There’s also a new McMaster Education Technology Resources space for instructors.

UTS-managed computer labs:

UTS-managed computer labs will also be supported remotely until February 7, 2022.  Issues should be reported to the remote Client Services Support team, which will then be escalated to the Lab Team for resolution.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for Microsoft 365 required for all students, faculty and staff:

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on Microsoft 365 services will be required for all students, faculty and staff, beginning January 2022. A rolling implementation for universal adoption will commence in late January continue through to April. Learn more here.
