New series aims to share innovative ideas about teaching and learning

With support from the Office of the Dean of Science, the School of Interdisciplinary Science is pleased to announce the start of MacDUET Education Talks, a monthly Brown Bag series meant to encourage multidisciplinary interactions among all members of the McMaster community.

Through MacDUET (McMaster University Dean’s Undergraduate Education Talks), we aim to create a casual environment where invited speakers share innovative ideas about teaching and learning and further discuss how these ideas are realized into practice.

The first event in this series will take place on September 22, 2017 and will feature Dr. Joe Kim with his talk, Making Teaching Personal and Learning Durable.

All talks will be held on a Friday, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. in the MacPherson Classroom, 5th floor of Mills Library.

By the end of the session, participants should be able to: 1. Implement methods to reduce mind wandering and promote effortful and focused attention in class. 2. Design teaching materials through multimedia learning principles to reduce cognitive load and promote learning.
