MIIETL research director elected co-president of teaching and learning society

Congratulations to MIIETL’s very own Associate Director of Research, Beth Marquis, who has been elected Co-President of The International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (ISSOTL) along with colleague Katarina Mårtensson from Lund University, Sweden.

“I’ve been an active ISSOTL member for a few years now, and really enjoy the opportunity to be part of such a vibrant, interdisciplinary, international scholarly community. My more extensive involvement began in 2012, when McMaster hosted the society’s annual conference and I had the pleasure of serving as conference co-chair. Working closely with the ISSOTL Board and an international organizing committee on the conference was a great experience, which solidified my commitment to the Society and its goals. I subsequently began serving on various ISSOTL committees, and, in 2014, I was elected to a term as Treasurer on the ISSOTL Board of Directors. The 2012 conference was also the first opportunity I had to work with Katarina Mårtensson, with whom I’ll be serving as co-President elect. We’ve subsequently collaborated on research and other initiatives to support teaching and learning scholarship—including working together on the ISSOTL Board. I’m so excited to have the chance to work closely with her again in this new role.” – Beth Marquis
