Over 900 McMaster employees and their families were invited to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon at the McMaster Marauders versusUniversity of Toronto Varsity Blues football game on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2004. This represented a record-breaking attendance for the third annual employee football event. The event was capped off with a sound victory by the Marauders over the Varsity Blues with a final score of 77-14.
The event was sponsored and organized by the McMaster Employee Spirit Society (M.E.S.S.!) in partnership with the Department of Athletics and Recreation. Outside of the game itself, employees and their families enjoyed reserved seating, complimentary refreshments and the opportunity to win prizes. Jennifer Walkes from the Department of Family Medicine attended with her family and said, It's my first time here; it's amazing.
The game began with a ceremonial kick-off that featured President, Peter George holding the ball for the kicker, Milica Pavlica, a recipient of the President's Working at McMaster' Awards for Outstanding Service for 2003. The national anthem was sung by Amber Reider, Department of Psychiatry and Lorraine Redford, Human Resources Services.
It is fantastic to see so many employees and families here today cheering the team on, said Pat Harris, Chair of the M.E.S.S.! committee. She added, It far exceeded our expectations and the committee is very grateful to Athletics and Recreation and Hospitality Services for their hard work as well as all those who supplied prizes for the event.
