SOTA Concert: Kamancello

Welcome to an exciting new season of concerts organized by the School of the Arts! We have had the pleasure to host guest musicians with strong national and international reputations for over 40 years. This year makes our first season in the impressive new Concert Hall in the most recently completed building on McMaster’s campus, the L.R. Wilson Hall.

Tuesday lunchtime (12:30 p.m.) concerts are free to attend. Friday evening concert (8 p.m.) tickets are regular $20, senior $15, and student $5. A subscription to all four Friday evening concerts is regular $60 and senior $45.

We hope you will join us for our 2017 – 18 Concert Series that draws on music traditions from around the world, and the official opening of an important new venue for concerts in Hamilton.

In a show blending refinement and innovation, Kamancello weaves a unique musical fresco that mixes the subtlety of traditional Kurdish and Mesopotamian music with the rigor of Western classical music. The scope of their creations ranges from soulful and emotive to incendiary and intense, and their sound has been described as being “totally entrancing.”
