Located in the Arthur N. Bourne (ABB) building, Room 142, the McMaster University Glassblowing Shop has been in operation for more than 54 years. The current scientific glassblower, Michael Palme, has been serving the McMaster University scientific community for the past 28 years.
The primary duty of the scientific glassblower is to provide glassblowing services to the Faculties of Science, and Engineering and Health Sciences on campus. The services provided by the Glassblowing Shop allow research personnel to procure custom scientific glassware on campus, which serves to significantly further their research programs. Whenever possible, glassblowing services are provided within the Glassblowing Shop area, although at times it is necessary to repair or construct apparatus in various laboratories on campus.
Michael Palme will be providing a tour of the Glassblowing Shop as well as a glassblowing demonstration. The demonstrations will start promptly at 10 minutes past the hour so please arrive promptly on the hour.
Note: For safety reasons, no persons wearing open toe shoes or sandals can enter The Glassblowing Shop. Please be sure that you wear appropriate footwear.
Space is very limited for these tours so register quickly. Note: 10 people maximum per tour.
