No two communication channels are the same. There are many ways to share your ideas and promote your initiatives, but you can’t be everywhere. How do you prioritize and build a communications strategy that meet your goals? How do you communicate persuasively – through online and public speaking – to drive home your message? This workshop will break down the different types of communication tools and discuss ways where you can apply them in your work. You will also learn to identify and characterize your audience and craft key messages that are relevant to them. Through case studies and exercises, the workshop will offer tips on ways to use and integrate multiple communication channels and tools to advance your goals.

A Southeast Asian born tan but without the Ray-Bans, Alyssa is a public relations professional. Through volunteering, she found herself in the non-profit world, which has helped her thrive personally and professionally. In her journey to build her career toolkit, Alyssa wrote for CBC Hamilton, stage-managed an LGBTQ dance theatre show and more. She is the digital marketing coordinator for Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation and the 2016 chair of Hamilton HIVE, the city’s leading young professional organization.

At the age of 24, Alyssa was honoured with YWCA Hamilton Woman of Distinction Award (Public Affairs, 2014) and McMaster Hamilton Community Impact Award (2015). A true Gen Y-er, she has many online selfs. Connect with her via Twitter @alyssaglai or at alyssaglai.com
