Winnie Doyle receives John C. Sibley Award
Assistant clinical professor of nursing Winnie Doyle is also a top executive at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton.
At St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, Winnie Doyle holds three executive positions. She is the vice-president, patient services; chief nursing executive and senior vice-president for acute care and chronic disease management.
But not only that, she’s also an award-winning teacher. The assistant clinical professor of nursing for McMaster University’s School of Nursing is this year’s recipient of the John C. Sibley Award from the McMaster University Faculty of Health Sciences
The award is presented annually to part-time faculty members who have made outstanding contributions to the education of health professionals. It is named for a former associate dean of the Faculty who was known for his interdisciplinary approach to community health.
“Through the creation and sustaining of partnerships with academia, Winnie has fostered a culture of excellence in clinical education within an academic teaching hospital,” said Catherine Tompkins, associate dean, health sciences, and director of the School of Nursing, in her nomination letter.
“Doyle is known for her commitment to collaborative inter-professional health care teams that support education of health professionals,” she added.
Tompkins also noted that Doyle increased student placements by more than 60 per cent in five years, and supported 19 St. Joseph’s Healthcare staff to achieve clinical faculty appointments. Doyle also pioneered a patient advisory committee which enacts the tenets of patient centred care.
“This provides a rich learning environment for students from multiple clinical disciplines,” Tompkins said.
Among other achievements, Doyle pioneered and co-led the development, implementation and evaluation of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Practice Certificate program in conjunction with the School of Nursing.
