McMaster will welcome some of the world’s leading experts on water, the world’s most precious resource, for a weeklong conference that takes place October 5 to 9.

Water Week: Navigating From Water Risk to Resilience brings together researchers, conservationists, students and community members for a series of lectures, workshops and networking events to tackle some of the world’s most pressing issues.

Presentations and discussions include:

• Cold Amazon: the Mackenzie River Basin documentary screening

• Public lecture Insuring Climate Risk with Ed Hanna, York University

• A Nexus of Risk: How Food, Energy and the Environment Affect Water with Nate Matthews of CGIAR and Jeremy Schmidt of Carlton University

• Panel discussion on Sustainable Development Goals with UNU Institute for Water, Environment and Health

• Distinguished Lecture, Water Innovations in Cities of the Future with David Sedlak, California Berkeley

In advance of major world climate talks set to take place in Paris later this fall, the McMaster 2020 Strategy will be outlined during the conference, focusing on the strategic vision and five-year plan which will leverage McMaster’s depth of expertise in water.
