The final few years of university come with plenty of decision-making and some uncertainty.

In between classes, clubs, athletics and social events, students are often pulled in different directions while trying to figure out their next move.

Enter Water Cooler Gossip — a student-run blog that will provide information, advice and tips to undergraduate students as they navigate their way through university before moving on to further education or the job market.

The voice behind the blog is Taylor Noble, a fourth-year Social Sciences student majoring in Anthropology. Noble will be sharing her experiences and writing about all things related to student life.

Consider her a friend to all — referring McMaster students to resources she has found helpful, and offering tips on making the most of extra-curricular experiences. Noble will also offer recommendations on how to avoid common job search mistakes, based on advice commonly heard around the office water cooler.

“The purpose of the blog is to provide a space for students to share advice, and to highlight some of the resources available on campus that will help them succeed in their endeavours and decision-making during their time at McMaster,” says Jacquie Hampshire, manager, marketing and communications, with the Student Success Centre.

Water Cooler Gossip focuses on topics that are familiar to students, and emphasizes a collective space for dialogue with friends and peers.

Current topics on the blog include:

  • Real Talk: The Mid-Semester Slump
  • Why You Should Pursue an Experience Abroad
  • Staying in Your Comfort Zone isn’t Always Comfortable
  • 5 Tips to Stop Procrastination

Check in regularly to see what Noble is discussing and read the tips she has for students. Water Cooler Gossip will also feature guest bloggers, along with a good dose of humour, GIFS and personal narratives for everyone.
